Golders Hill Park - Golders Green

This large house was in a derelict state when Winston Newman was commissioned to transform it into a spacious and elegant home, suitable for the Client and their young, growing family.

The Practice was reponsible for the whole project from inception to completion.

The design completely transformed the size and quality of the interior spaces and their relationship to each other, whilst at the same time enhancing the underlying character of the building. The extensions continued the theme of large semi-circular bay windows and pitched tiled roofs.

Although the appearance from the street was largely unchanged, the rear and side of the building were completely rebuilt and extended. The interior underwent a major reconfiguration and the whole of the building was completely refurbished.

The large kitchen / breakfast room and the large living room both open onto a large rear curved terrace. The project included landscaping of the large gardens, as well as specially designed front railings.

Work was completed in 2012.

Belmor - Elstree

The client appointed Winston Newman to modernise, extend and refurbish their existing family home.

A two storey rear extension was added to provide additional living and bedroom space. The kitchen was repositioned and part of the ground floor redesigned to provide a large open plan living area with plenty of natural light. The master bedroom was doubled in size.

The existing basement garage was converted into a playroom. This is linked to the house by a new light well and staircase within a distinctive glazed enclosure.

Interior finishes were completely upgraded throughout the house.

Work took place during 2010.

Horbury Crescent - Notting Hill

The client commissioned Winston Newman Chartered Architects to design and oversee a complete refurbishment and modernisation programme of their home in Notting Hill. The interior of the house has been completely reconfigured. There are now five bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms. The kitchen has been relocated at the rear and a stunning contemporary glazed conservatory has been added floating over a new large basement level terrace.

Modern materials contrast with period features that have been kept and enhanced wherever possible. The roof has been rebuilt and incorporates a concealed platform for air conditioning units. Completely new climate systems, water services, drainage and electrical systems with state of the art lighting support transformed open, airy and light interior spaces. Construction work commenced in September 2006 and was completed within a year.

Newlands Avenue - Radlett

The client moved to this premier road nine years ago and since then has undertaken a phased development of the property with Winston Newman, having worked previously with him on their last house in Bushey. Major extensions and remodeling took place in 2001. These images highlight the third phase completed in 2009, comprising a loft conversion, kitchen extension and construction of a gym complex.

The loft conversion presented significant engineering challenges and a complex steel framework was designed to support the structure. Working within tight planning constraints, two bright and airy bedrooms, one with en suite shower room, were created. An impressive vaulted stairwell provides access to the loft and is bathed in natural light by dormer windows and sun tubes. The bright and spacious air conditioned gym complex with its distinctive pyramid pine roof, integrated sauna and shower room makes for a relaxed workout environment. Construction began in August 2008 and was completed on schedule in eight months with minimal disruption to the clients.

Whitechapel Road - Whitechapel

Planning permission was granted by Tower hamlets in January 2009 for a new seven storey mixed use development comprising double height retail units at street level and luxury residential accommodation above. Some of the nine apartments feature balconies and there is a communal roof garden. A duplex penthouse features a private terrace with panoramic views over the City. This scheme forms part of the regeneration of this cosmopolitan area, a stones throw from the new Whitechapel Art Gallery.
